The BAAGC

Bay Area Asian Golf Club

 2026

The BAAGC made its long awaited return to the renovated Poppy Ridge Golf Course. However, hot weather, combined with a new course layout took its toll with many of the club’s ace golfers turning in high scores. There was one exception however.

In the A flight, the competition was close but the “Chef” continued his spicy run to his first Club Championship. Brian Mattingly turned on the heat on the back nine, overcoming a 5 shot deficit to overtake Arden Chan by virtue of the tiebreaker! Both shot net 76, finishing one shot ahead of Michael Taam.

The B flight saw a completely dominant performance. “Blazing” Bruce Ching was immune to the heat and the tough course conditions to shoot a net 69, with an exceptional back nine 32 to seal the victory! Steve Arbogast made a strong pursuit with a back nine net 31, though he ultimately fell 4 shots short of the top prize. Gil Takahashi shot a solid net 79 to round out the money list.

The CP competition was highlighted by clan rivalry between the Chan’s and the Taam’s. The Chan clan claimed two firsts and two seconds while the Taam clan claimed two firsts and one second! The next tournament is Rancho Solano on June 7th. Hopefully the Chan’s and the Taam’s will share some of the riches!
